PURPOSE of TA

To assist individuals and their organization to improve by offering resources and information, supporting networking and change efforts

DEFINING FEATURES of TA

Scope
Typically an external TA provider responds to programmatic or system-level needs (can support both small-scale changes that can be accommodated by existing systems and large-scale reorientations of the system itself).

Framework
A series of planned activities and products that is responsive to the recipients’ needs

Strategies
Uses a variety of methods to plan and implement change such as providing tools to assess needs, making  site visits, sharing materials and resources, and linking professional networks through strategies such as conference calls, listservs, topical web sites, and webinars 

EXAMPLES of TA from the EARLY CHILDHOOD FIELD

A regional technical assistance (TA) provider works with child care teachers and staff to plan and implement program improvements. The TA provider explains how planned changes to the learning environment will address quality enhancement standards and lead to a higher quality rating.  The TA provider offers a variety of resources and professional support as program changes are implemented (by program staff).
